What is PP honeycomb core?

PP honeycomb core is a lightweight structural material made from thermoplastic polypropylene formed into a hexagonal honeycomb pattern. It provides an excellent stiffness-to-weight ratio when sandwiched between face sheets (glass fiber, aluminum, PP sheet, etc.) to create composite sandwich panels. It is 100% waterproof, chemically resistant, recyclable, and significantly lighter than traditional core materials like plywood, MDF, or foam.

How does PP honeycomb core compare to aluminum honeycomb?

PP honeycomb is lighter (density 40-120 kg/m³ vs 50-130 kg/m³ for aluminum honeycomb), significantly cheaper (typically 30-50% lower cost), 100% waterproof and corrosion-proof (aluminum corrodes in marine/chemical environments), and fully recyclable as a single-material thermoplastic. However, aluminum honeycomb offers higher temperature resistance (up to 200°C vs 80°C for PP), higher absolute strength, and better fire performance. Choose PP for cost-sensitive, moisture-exposed, and recyclability-priority applications; aluminum for high-temp and fire-critical applications.

What cell sizes are available?

Standard cell sizes: 5mm, 8mm, 10mm, 12mm, 15mm, and 19mm. Smaller cells (5-8mm) provide higher density and compressive strength, suitable for load-bearing floors and structural panels. Larger cells (15-19mm) are lighter and more cost-effective, suitable for partition walls, packaging, and non-structural applications. Custom cell sizes can be produced for specific engineering requirements.
